Polynesian Mythology and How We Need to Do Better

Hawaii is a special place. If you've been there before, you know that. If you haven't, you might need to get a vacation on the books.

I mean, look at this. How can you not fall in love with a place that looks like this in your crummy, unfiltered phone photos?

There's a lot to love about Hawaii, and one of my favorite things is the rich cultural tradition. I've always been enamored with mythology and legend, and it's crazy to me that while we spend so much time studying the stories of the ancient Greeks and Romans, we almost never talk about Polynesian mythology. And it's a shame, because the stories from Polynesian mythology are rich and wonderful and unique, and by gum, we need to do more to spread them around.

That's why I'm pleased to announce a brand new video series on the State of Clayton blog called The Mainlander's Guide to the Legends of Hawaii. Each video will explore a different story from Hawaiian tradition, and hopefully in a way that gets across how fun and important these stories are.

So join me, won't you? Dive into the brand new series and immerse yourself in Hawaiian mythology...because the first episode is live now!
